I live outside of town in a wooded area. Hawks pass through this area but don't usually stay too long. We have more issues with owls. Gracie is never outside by herself and I always walk her on a short leash. Have never had an attack but I have had owls swoop down, land on low branches and stare at us when walking in the morning. They do stay out long after sunrise. We now wait until later in the morning to go for a long walk.
People with larger Yorkies should be aware that a hungry hawk will attack larger animals. An 8 or 10lb dog could get sliced up pretty well with those talons so don't take chances. The young birds that are out on their own for the first few months make some daring attacks when they have not had a meal for a few days. |
