I don't think it is pratical to destroy the nest, as most nests are very high up in the tree. I think it's best to try to make the environment less attractive so perhaps they move the next time they build a nest.
Yesterday, we heard the hawk before we saw it...just confirmed it was a mama talking to her baby(s)
