Default Staph infection......again

First I want to say that although I am not a regular poster on these boards, over the years I have received invaluable advice from so many of you here. So thank you all!

Here is my current problem. Milo will be 11 years old in July. Since November of last year he has had a recurring staph infection on his skin (pyoderma). When this first happened, the vet did complete blood work and a skin scrape. We were given medicated shampoo and he was put on antibiotics for 10 days, but it never fully cleared up. He was then given another 21-day round of antibiotics. Everything was great and then I noticed the small scaly scabs again April. He had complete blood work done again and was given another 21-day course of antibiotics and seven days of prednisone. I also changed him to a grain free diet. He gets Fromm Game Bird in the morning and eats Nature’s Variety lamb or duck raw bites in the evening. I have also been giving him 1/4 of a Benadryl tablet every night before bed. Two days ago, I noticed the scaly patches on his skin again. His blood work has come back normal each time.

He is not scratching and does not seem to be bothered in the least by these scabs. He is eating and playing normally. I have a call in to his vet, but I don’t want to keep treating him with antibiotics. At this point, I really do not feel that it is a food allergy, I think it very well be environmental. Given where we live, Sacramento, California that wouldn’t be a surprise. Allergies in this area tend to be terrible.

Has anyone had any experience with this being a recurring or chronic problem? Any advice? Thanks!
