It is compressed air that makes a "Shhhh" sound. I call it the horn so Max understands.

Definitely wouldn't make a good corrector if used for play. Careful around the eyes! (sorry, I'm paranoid and wouldn't want anyone reading to make this mistake.)

I agree that it is not a positive reinforcement and I would carefully consider my dog's personality before using something like this. Max is not fearful of noises. We give the "quiet" command first and pick up the can only when he doesn't listen to us -- which is when the doorbell or my phone rings.
