it really depends on your female. If she ovulates regularly (every 6 mo.) and she has no problems with her whelping and recovers nicely I would skip one season and breed the next. If your girl has trouble with regular heat cycles and is only coming in once every 9 10 months I would first of all check with your vet that she is ok hormonely (is that a word?), re: bloodwork and thyroid screening, .. obviously if she is showing a low thyroid output maybe breeding her at all is a question you need to consider.
