I received the results this evening. Not a lot of answers

The biopsy indicates the changes in Ollie’s skin areconsistent with erythema multiforme (EM for short). It, too, is a type ofimmune system attack on the skin.

Causes include: induced by: medications, underlyinginfection, and underlying illness, idiopathic (we don’t know the cause)

EM can be mild and run its course without therapy. This isclearly not the case for Ollie.

We can start immunosuppression with a single medication. Ifhe fails to respond then we will need to discuss next steps (food trial, changeHW/flea meds, etc) If he responds well but relapses as we taper therapy then wewill need to consider a two medications course of therapy and for a longerperiod of time.

Predinsolone, 5mg , 2 tablets by mouth once every 24 hours

You will likely note increased drinking, urination, appetiteand panting as a side effects of this medication. Serious side effects areuncommon. If anorexia (no appetite), vomiting, severe weakness or dark, tarrystools are noted, this could indicate a more serious side effect (such asstomach ulcer) and we should be notified.

Continue pentofiylline
