When dogs are in renal failure it is VERY common for their appetite to be affected. It has nothing to do with the food ... usually they will turn their noses up to anything. As for RX foods, the one I have had the most success with in terms of palatability for the pup is Purina NF.
This is why I always suggest a person speak with their vet about Mirtazapine. I have had some pretty amazing turn arounds with it.
