My Hanna had this happen about a week ago. Her and Tiffany came inside from a potty break. I got them each a cookie and when I gave them the cookie I went back to what I was doing.
I turned back to see Hanna standing there not eating her cookie with her head hung low. I talked to her a minute and she just wouldn't lift her head. My husband said what is on the floor and I checked it out and sure enough she had stood right there and peed a river. And yes she was ashamed.
She is 13 1/2 yrs old and beginning to show signs of age, hearing and seeing is going. She completely ignores some of my commands and sleeps most of the day. When she is asleep she sleeps so deeply she doesn't hear me even when I am standing next to her. I have to touch her and than she will shoot out of sleep like she was shot from a cannon. So I am very careful not to wake her by touch.
She has a difficult time jumping into her favorite chair and falls backwards a lot of times in her attempts. I bought her a ramp but she is terrified of it and refuses to use it. I have tried everything to teach her but none works.
I had a Shih Tzu for 12 years and she had dementia in the end also. So I am watching Hanna close. Today we go to the vet for a severe allergy outbreak. She had cancer about 5 years ago and I see a bump I don't like so will get that checked also.
I can understand the heartbreak of losing a furbaby and think I will never go thru this again.

But than I can't imagine my life without a furbaby either.
