When my Yorkie was a baby, he would #2 in his crate all the time. I thought he would never "get it". After he got a little older, we started to block him off in our laundry room. He would #2 in there too and then play with it and eat it <YIKES>. In time, he has learned to better control his bowels and I only find a mess very infrequently. It took a good year for him to learn, though. I cleaned up a lot of smooshed poo in the meantime.
