Heartworm is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. A mosquito can get into a house.

The dog we had in Chicago over 25 years ago never had preventatives. Vets did not recommend them. However, we had giant trucks spraying chemicals all over to kill mosquitoes.

I hated giving up Interceptor. We are using Heartgard now.
