My previous dogs I let out all the time no supervision. They since passed. But before I got Moki a Coyote jumped the neighbors 6ft fence and grabbed the 12+ # mix dog and jumped back over. She saw the whole thing from her window. Since then Moki will always in my sights. With me close. Every yard ,every situation is different. I don't judge because I'm not there. But IN MY AREA imo if your dog isn't at least medium to large size or a Tough Terrier like a Jack or Border I would watch them 24/7 if it were mine. A Coyote with kill a Jack or Border but they can run fast and are feisty.. In the house it can be dangerous also. But I doggy proofed what I could. And if he's is going to be left home alone or if nobody is watching him he goes in the room which is the kitchen and rec room shut in with baby gates.JMO

I would be cautious though my friend Jim had a great gated system on his porch for his poodle Noel, unfortunately the next door neighbors Rotty Xena found a way over that gate and it was a tragedy. Now I'm not saying you shouldn't etc., I'm just telling you to think of all possibilities...maybe a higher fence etc...just in case.
