I'm unclear of what the second vet did about the x-rays and thought? That second vet didn't want x-rays? What was the heavy heart about? I'm not quite clear on that.
I would be very careful about thinking my dog was playing for attention if they are having leg problems or showing any symptoms of struggling to walk! I would get clear x-rays and get a respected orthopedic veterinary surgeon's opinion if I had to drive 500 miles for it. It sounds as if that dog is in pain or struggling with lack of muscle control or ability to walk well. Were any lab tests done or any neurological examinations/testings done? Your dog could - could - have a variety of things making walking difficult but pursue this with an excellent vet who will get clear films using some sedation if he has to and then check for other things that could be causing this. It doesn't have to be orthopedic - can be other diseases and things causing this.
What other signs or symptoms does she have? Does she rest well and play and bark, eat normally? Any nausea, vomiting, diarrhea? Is she restless, agitated at time or does she sleep a lot? Any walking off center or leaning to one side, shaking, shaking her head or trying to isolate herself? Is she quiet or aggressive?
