FWIW I let Moki act like a dog. But I let him out on my porch that has a gate and he can't get off. Period no way he can. He uses a grass potty pad. I let him go into the fenced yard supervised only. My previous dogs I let out all the time no supervision. They since passed. But before I got Moki a Coyote jumped the neighbors 6ft fence and grabbed the 12+ # mix dog and jumped back over. She saw the whole thing from her window. Since then Moki will always in my sights. With me close. Every yard ,every situation is different. I don't judge because I'm not there. But IN MY AREA imo if your dog isn't at least medium to large size or a Tough Terrier like a Jack or Border I would watch them 24/7 if it were mine. A Coyote with kill a Jack or Border but they can run fast and are feisty.. In the house it can be dangerous also. But I doggy proofed what I could. And if he's is going to be left home alone or if nobody is watching him he goes in the room which is the kitchen and rec room shut in with baby gates.JMO
