I just got home yesterday, I, very unexpectedly, had to fly out to Palm Springs on Sat. I had Zero Notice and thus no time to find a sitter or even call the vet for an over night stay. I had only hours to book a flight pack and hit the road to the airport! I packed her up and paid the $75 for her to fly with me! All I can say is... Keep your vet records up to date and in a file where you can grab them and go if you ever need to! You never know when you'll have to just run out the door with the dog husband and kids.... Be prepared!
Of course, making friends with the neighbors is a good suggestion too! lol I wish I had!
