I have always had dogs and cats and I never keep them separated they always seemed to learn to get along. My Golden retriever use to sleep with the cat.

No, she is not trying to get to me. I sleep on the sofa bed in the living room and at night she is in her crate right beside the bed. She annoys the cats to no end. She wants to play, but my 15 year old cat does not. Neither cat had ever been around a dog until I brought Lacey home. Both cats hid for days. After a couple of weeks, they slowly came around, but when they've had enough, they want to get away from her. They jump over the gate whenever they want. It's not a forced separation. Lacey cannot get over the gate yet.
