I am going to have to re-do training with Jackson, he just his cleaning today at the vets because I have slacked and not brushed for months....
But what we did before to get him used to it, was I initially trained him to come into the bathroom with me every night. No tooth brushes, paste, etc. Just .. you get a treat for coming into the bathroom. After a few days of that, I started bringing the brush and paste in. I would let him sniff it, put it on the ground, and put the treats around the brush so he would associate it with positive things. After a week of that, I began lifting his lip up, clicking and treating. No brushing yet at this point. After another week, we began the brushing part. So it took about 2 weeks of de-sensitizing and then he just became used to it and it became routine.
We use CET beef flavored. He tolerates it more than any other flavors. |
