Ace is a dopamine blocker. Xanax works with GABA receptors. The two are quite different. Ace suppresses behavior, while Xanax slows the brain down generally while allowing more motor function. With anxiety the brain is going a mile a minute and by causing it to slow down rather than impairing movement.
Both work and effects are very dose related but they work very differently in the brain. I like Xanax because it is more scary when you are already anxious to have a lack of positive or negative physiological feedback and decreased motor function. The "slowing down" process of xanaxx is generally more peaceful.
Of course, with both you have to get the dose correct for the dog. My experience alsomisnthat Xanax acts more quickly than ace, unless you really snow them with ace.
