Would this work for a puppy. These are from the internet but I was thinking of getting that play pen, a plastic crate like the one shown, and instead of using that grass looking thing putting a puppy pad in a plastic container like the one shown.

If I leave the puppy in the playpen to sleep and leave the crate open is he likely to use the pee pad if I train him to. I don't mind him peeing on the floor in front of the crate because I could always clean it up but what do you guys think of this set up?

I would mainly take him to the balcony to do his business and this would be only for night time or if he is home alone.
Im not sure on the size of the puppy youre getting but if he is on the bigger side, you may want to rethink that pen. I have that pen and Dexter figured out how to climb out of it the 2nd time I put him in. He was 12 weeks old and 4 lbs. The first time he got out since he was able to jump high enough to hook his paws on the top and pull himself out. Even if yours can't jump quite that high, you might want to be careful with that crate inside of it. I had a crate like that in the 2nd pen that I had and he jumped on his crate and still tried to jump out. He was close, but couldn't make it. I could see a smaller pup jumping on top of a crate then out with that iris pen. If he does though, you could always get a cover...
