There is no way I would have let that slide! I would have had an attourney on that. She still had legal rights to that dog if she did as she was instructed within the originally stated time frame and especially if she had the dog licensed.
It does not suprise me though. I used to have an 4 month old American Staffordshire Terrier. I went out of town and left my dog with a friend in the same manner she did. When I got back, they told me the dog had run away. So I freaked out and went looking for him. Then a different friend told me that the dogsitter's boyfriend took my dog to the animal shelter when they got in an arguement just to spite her. So I went to the animal shelter. They proceed to tell me that I cannot have my dog back unless I go right out and buy some $3,000 insurance bond for him because he was a "pit bull" (vicious breed) and it was required by the state of Ohio!! I explained to them that I had not had the pup for very long and knew nothing of that policy, that I had been out of town, and I would need at least a few days to get the money together for that. I explained that I WOULD get the policy, but I just got back from vacation. They told me he was scheduled to be euthanised that evening and I HAD to have it that day. I was so angry. I went out scrambling to get the bond, asking everyone I knew for help, but to no avail. I returned crying and pleading and they just got more and more rude with me. I asked to see my dog and they made me look at him through a little window in the hall door. I absolutely flipped out! I was screaming at them for being so heartless and unreasonable and that he was only FOUR months old! Just an innocent baby! Well, obviously the story did not end well. There was just nothing I could do to stop it in ONE day. So let me just say that I hate the state of Ohio for their ridiculous laws regarding "vicious breeds". I understand that they need strict policies for these dogs, but do you know that NO pit bulls/staffordshires are EVER allowed to be adopted out from a shelter or humane society here? They are always euthanized no matter if they are tiny little babies or mean fighting dogs. I saw that policy first hand when I worked for the Humane Society. That just makes me so angry!!
