Babies are just like babies at times. They make messes and they definitely get dirty. You are putting in the right amount of work to help her understand. It will definitely take time for her to learn the rules. Ella used to cry in the night in her crate and when I didn't pay attention to it she finallly finally finally stopped and now she knows that she sleeps in there and she doesn't mind it. Training takes time, there aren't necessarily instant results. I read somewhere that dogs love routine, it makes them feel comfortable. You are still developing that routine for her. Keep at it, it will work. The stepping in her poop situation, maybe you could put doggie shoes on her. Ella sometimes gets up before she is done going #2 (impatient little girl) and then it is stuck to her (instant bath!!!). It is just what they do. Eventually she'll probably see that she doesn't want to step in it!!!
