Default Feeding

My yorkie is 5 years old and I am having a job getting him to eat what is stated for his requirements. They say 1/4 cup twice a day. I have bought a good quality food (Precise Adult) but he only eats less then a 1/4 cup a day and sometimes only 1/8 of a cup. He doesn't seem to be underweight (5lbs) and is within the acceptable weight range for a yorkie. I usually try to feed him twice daily but was wondering if I cut it back to once a day if I would have better luck getting him to eat a little more. Any suggestions on what to do? Oh, by the way, if I give him food that I am eating he will gulp it down but I really do not want to start that trend. I have been told by a dog trainer that he is not food motivated. I can't even get him to eat by trying to hand feed him. Yorkies are known to be hypoglycemic but is that only in puppies or also in adult dogs?
