Hi and welcome to New York! You will love it in the Big Apple. Lots and lots of great things to do and see, and yes, quite a selection of ethnic foods. Make sure you pack comfortable walking shoes and don't forget to check out the designer shops on 5th and Madison Avenues.
As for the hotel, I am guessing you already informed them that you are bringing Sprocket. I'd be really careful letting him walk on the streets of NYC as it is quite busy and crowded and he would easily get trampled.
