Yeah, I anguished over that decision. I had originally planned to put him in a 24/7 facility overnight, but the more I looked into it the more I didn't like it. He would have been kept in a lit room amid a lot of emergency activity. He wouldn't get much rest, which the doc said is what he needs. It also would have required putting him in a crate, driving across town and taking him out of the crate, then doing the same thing in the morning.

I suppose I could have lobbied to take him home for the night, but I'd still have to crate and uncrate him three times to get him home, back to the doc in the morning and then home again.

The clincher for me was the early surgery. He'll have 12 hours of post-surgery supervision before the office closes at 11. It reopens at 6:30, so the alone time will not be much different than if I had him at home while we're sleeping. And he'll only have to go in and out of the crate once.

Am I happy about it? Nope, but I do think it's my best choice.
