Bogie has a cotton coat and Jada is more of a modified coat. I gave up on the long hair two years ago. Bogie could be brushed out three times a day and still have mats. I do keep their legs and head long.
I swear I bet I spent over 2,000 in two years trying every product recommended for matting and shine. My mom takes her Biewer Jazz to the groomer at our vets office. Jazz smelled so good after one of her grooms, so I asked mom what Amanda used. Turns out (Jazz mats really bad too) the product helped trememdously with her matting also.
It is Top Performance Fresh Pet. Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more

I have been using it for over a year now. Bogie will occasionally get some matting around his arm pits if he wears a t-shirt but that is it. I am only brushing them both about twice a week, other than fixing topknots and faces daily. (note that they only have long hair on legs and head and Bogie has his full tail)

I wish I had found this three years ago. I would have a lot more $$ in my pocket
