Do I understand right that the Dodd diet should not be used if a shunt is suspected?

Just watch the amount of protein. It's my understanding that shunt dogs need low protein diet. You can still use the Dodd's diet, just make sure you stick to the recommended amount of protein. My dog does not have a shunt. My vet wants him to have a decent amount of the good proteins like fish, chicken breast, etc. and he's not a big veggie eater!
