I agree, you can use a cleaner, preferably one with a drying agent. Moisture provides a breeding ground for things that lead to an ear infection.
Any sign of dark gunk and smell should be checked by a vet, especially if your pup scratches his ears, shakes his head, or rubs his head on the floor. Those are signs of discomfort and pain from a possible infection. Also want to make sure he doesn't have ear mites.
Ears may droop for for many reasons: the ear flap needs to shaved (hair can weigh down the ear), ear infection, or teething. Some Yorkies' ears never stand. Sometimes breeders will tape them for awhile to help them stand. Folded ears need extra attention because they don't have as much air circulation as standing ears.
