My Alice has suffered with HG twice... the 3rd time i noticed the symptoms really early and was able to intervene /cut it off at the pass with these tips from a friend who is a vet:
~Immediately switch to a bland diet
~pepcid ac (check with your vet but mine said to give her a 1/2 tablet 2x a day)
~pedialyte to help keep her hydrated (i have to force feed it to her with an eye dropper)
~antibiotics (my vet called in a scrip for a course of antibiotics right away)
It seemed to work and she did not have to be hospitalized the 3rd time...
