Yorkies are big dogs trapped in a small body. They are bossy and they do still have that rodent killing instinct. Mine kills her toys with the same vicious shake that you will see a terrier use to kill a rodent. I'm amazed her neck can swing so hard and fast.
Your little find could have been on her own for a while. I understand your being afraid that some bad owner might want her back. But on the other hand if she had gotten away from someone and been on her own for a while she would look to be in pretty rough shape. I would not want to be in your position as far as wanting to do the right thing by her. Just keep watching various classified ads and flyers that people put up. Someone who really wants their dog back will not give up easily. Hopefully the vet can tell if she has had puppies. I do think she is mature. Any spay scar? Probably not if she has been in heat recently or had puppies. Hope she's not pregnant.
Please read the "sticky" sections at the start of the various forums here at YT. You will find good information about Yorkies here. There is also a library. Because the Yorkie has become so popular some genetic weakness have been found in a lot of them. Just know what to watch for. Their teeth do tend to get bad easily and many have sensitive digestive systems. What your big dogs can eat may cause big problems in you little girl.
I hope all goes well for you and this little one. And thank you for taking her in. What a find!
By the way.....little dogs that are badly behaved are usually that way because the owner has not taken the time to train them properly. Something that often gets overlooked in small dogs. |
