Cherry, I am amazed first that you had a Yorkie until 18 yrs old, and that he also had liver shunt at one year old!
Devilishness is the norm in my view. LOL!
I must say that knowing the trials that can befall our babies we can get overprotective by frequent testing. But, so much better to be safe than sorry.

i never heard of yorkies being known for weak hearts either. i did read about liver shunts and trancheas and knee giving out. Yes jem was 18. he was real nice until he hit a year, then was biting people all the time and if he was on the couch and someone dared to move he would run after you to bite you lol. that is when i took him to the vet and the liver shunt was discovered. back then there was only 1 doctor in the city that fixed them and it was $1000.that was alot 26 years ago. i begged my parents to loan me the money. then i switched to a holistic vet. put him on homecooked foods , no vaccinations,and he was fine until he was 17. when his knee snapped.i forget the official terminology of it.
