Say the "stay" command only once, remain right in front of and give treats while he is sitting in front of you. Do not try to attempt to move around until he can stay for over a minute and then start with one step back and treat when he stays. Most people in my class after four weeks can only take a couple steps away. This is a hard command for little dogs to learn so patience, lots of treats and go at their pace. You want him to think sitting still is the best thing in the world. Also use a command to stop the stay such as ok, break, let's go. So he doesn't confuse it with other commands and learns he can not move from the spot until he hears the magic word. They have short attention spans so this hard for them to learn. |
