Yes there are patterns for appliqueing. My other passion, behind dog dresses are denham jackets. I love to decorate them. I use alot of patterns by "Serendipity". I think the designer is Susan Whitt or Karen Whitt. She is a fellow Texan, has wonderful ideas for skirts, dresses, tops, jackets and purses. But I like her applique patterns the best. I usually redo them a bit to make them my own. Its very easy to applique, you iron wonderunder on the back or fabric, cut out your shapes from that, iron it on the garment, pin "tear away or stitch n tear" on the back of the garment to give it some stability and start decorating with a zigzag stitch. You can experiment with different colors of thread and widths of zigzag.
