Mine is too....but it actually plugs into the system, up in the hole in the ceiling....which, oh by the way, are 14 feet high in most of the house, 12 feet high in the rest of the house....so we are running out to the garage to fetch an extension ladder to reach those dad gum things in the middle of the night. That is exactly what hard-wired means. Our one alarm is at the top of our foyer/stairs, so we would have to turn off the circuit breaker if ours ever went nuts. No way are we getting on a ladder!
