Mine is too....but it actually plugs into the system, up in the hole in the ceiling....which, oh by the way, are 14 feet high in most of the house, 12 feet high in the rest of the house....so we are running out to the garage to fetch an extension ladder to reach those dad gum things in the middle of the night. So, I unplugged the thing where it attaches inside the ceiling, and we still have the batteries in them, so they continue to function....they just dont go off with power surges, power outages, etc. (Maybe that is not considered hardwired if it attaches to the entire system through the wiring?)
