I contacted the shelter. They do seem legit. It's a really horrifying photo they posted of the poor pup
Here's their reply to me:
"Thank you for your concern. When we got Patrick he had big open sores across hid body and most of his fur missing. We are trying to get donations toward his blood work testing which is about $300. He wouldn't eat when he first came to us but my fiance April, is really great with special needs animals. He's eating now but he's still not 100% yet. His blood work is to make sure his internal organs are working as they should, like his liver and kidneys. He shows classic signs of a dog from a mill. It is a shame that people think it's ok for them to treat animals this way. We would love to answer anymore questions you might have. Please feel free to call us anytime.

I'm assuming that since they don't even have bloodwork on him yet, they don't really know what's going on inside his little body. I wonder if there's enough love in the world to save this poor baby. So cruel.
