I watch these marathon runners in Houston, practicing running around the Medical Center....I have seen them forget all about the poor little Yorkie they are dragging along on a leash behind them, at all hours of the day, regardless of the heat and humidity....all fit and trim and glowing with sweat, while that poor little dog is stumbling, running as best it can, tongue lolled out, ears hanging sideways, barely able to even hold its head up, little paws burning from running on the concrete sidewalk in 96-104 degree weather.....I have actually stopped twice and pointed out that their little dog was about to die, as they drug it along behind them....they were all into their training and plum forgot that babys legs are about 4-5 inches long, and they can NOT run a 6 minute mile, or 7 miles in an hour, in the heat of the day, in 70% humidity. Please just remember you have a little dog at the end of that leash...let the little dog set the pace for your "run"...these are NOT labradors or german shepherds....if you are not getting enough out of the "Yorkie run", then add additional running times to YOUR training schedule, while your baby is "recouperating" at home!
