I had to make that same decision 7 years ago when my yorkie was attacked by a black lab while I was out walking him. I had my dog on a leash and the black lab was also on a leash but jerked away from his owner and ran across the road to attack us. He actually jerked my little boy right out of my arms as I was attempting to pick him up. He ended up paralyzing my little yorkie and he had no feeling from the neck down. I made the decision to put him to sleep because I knew even if we could keep him alive his quality of life would not be good. I had nightmares for months but I know I made the right decision. I carry a bat when I walk my dogs now and I have even used it a few times to chase big dogs away.

You never want to see your dog suffering. I am a nursing student and with the type of injury your little one had her chances would not have been good. I'm sure you made the right decision. It will just take time to heal.
