Omg a mouse in the house...

Im tired! This morning about 1am dbf's snoring got to me so I moved upstairs to the couch. I was all cuddled in with the sweetest little snorers two next to me and one on the floor. Just falling asleep around 230 when I heard this scurrying chomp chomp chomp at the dog food dish. Im tired don't think much of it other than Ruby sure is picking out here favorite pieces of food the way she is moving the pieces around in the bowl and then it dawns on me...ruby n Rosie the only 2 things small enough in the house to make that noise are cuddled up next to me.....ugh...its a mouse. Normally...in a cage or outside or in a pet store mice do not scare me. As a little girl I had been known to put babies found out in the barn in my pocket to bring them inside the house as pets..until my mom would find them. However IN THE HOUSE I DETEST THE DIRTY LITTLE B#$3RDS!!!! I had gotten my significant other two kittens this fall to take care of any mouse that was daring enough to venture in to the house but that was a bust...those two kittens now reside at my house because they have not one hunting bone in their body unless it is to attack human feet. Sorry...back to the story...as im sitting on the couch actually standing to get a better view...Its dark out and my glasses are on an end table which would mean putting my feet on the floor where the mouse could have the chance to run up my leg...not gonna happen...im squinting and all of a sudden...my fearless 3.5/4 lb Ruby 's terrier instinct kicks in and she is running for the darn mouse in the bowl. Ugh..in that split second..all I could think of was the mouse was gonna be bigger then her, its gonna bite her, she is going to get all these diseases from it and I was to chicken to get off the couch.....aaaargh....terriers are stubborn when they are in the zone. I tried to yell in a whisper every name I have called Ruby-Sioux trying to get her attention with out waking the bf. It was not working...I could hear this squeak aqueduct and chatter of the monster telling Ruby off and Ruby telling it off...well the story is anti climatic...I threw a pillow at them...Ruby was shaken out of her trance enough she came rto me and the mouse hid under the pillow til I could scoop up the girls and run down stairs to safety. I wonder what diseases mice could give to dogs with a bite? Does any one have any natural mouse repellent ideas? As much as I hate them I also hate the thought of them getting killed. This one must have made friends w the cat and the love traps we have set out he is too smart for!!
