I'm glad Peek was okay.
Okay...I put my glasses on, lol. CVS makes a Sterile Saline Solution that is preservative free and I also have OcuFresh Eye Wash, also preservative free. They both come in tiny bottles. I transfer the liquid to a clean glass baby food jar and set it in a large cup of very warm water to warm it up, then use an eyedropper to apply it to the eye, a cotton ball or a Q-Tip, so I don't contaminate the remaining product in the bottles.

I would think tap water would be irritating, as it contains fluoride, chlorine and other additives to make it healthy for ingestion... IDK.

As for those tear stain removal products... the ones I looked at say 'keep out of the eyes'... which is impossible to do (I always get eye makeup remover in my eyes, bc wetness and eyelashes just wick the stuff up into the eye) so I figure the same thing would happen with my dogs' eyes and those products.

Even my vet was going to give me Animax AB stuff for Peek's wounds, and I was concerned with getting that in his eyes. So I asked if Opthalmic AB Ointment would also heal the skin around his eyes, as I had to use some in his eyes for the wound inside his lower lid anyway. I also worried that he might start rubbing the area and get the Animax (for skin wounds) in his eyes. She said the Opthalmic Ointment would work on the skin too... so I didn't have to worry...
