Shouting This From The Housetops: Listen to this poster and just take your dog to the vet! If your dog is having these type symptoms, he's miserable and, if nothing else, needs something to settle his stomach and/or help with the diarrhea to keep him from dehydrating!!! It may be nothing or it could be life-threatening but your dog needs something to help him feel better and possibly other treatment, just as you would do for a sick child.

Just because he might play between bouts of vomiting/diarrhea, continue to eat, drink, etc., but still keeps up those symptoms, doesn't mean he's not suffering or not ill. Please understand that. Dogs very often hide illness and pain as part of their canine nature and heritage and try to function as normally as possible. They often carry this off so well we don't even know how badly their condition has progressed until they are quite ill and can no longer manage to cover their situation. So I add my voice to OP and all of the others - take your dog to the vet when having these kinds of symptoms. Please.
