Cull is the word used, and if your talking about fish, many breeders do kill the fish that aren't the colors they want. Perhaps in the past, even dog breeder killed the dog, but cull also means, that you "cull" them from your breeding program. In other words you just don't breed them. In the past, neutering wasn't available, so maybe that's why they killed some, but I certainly hope breeders are no longer killing puppies, it wouldn't make sense, since these off-colors are sold for more money by many breeders. I'm not in favor of breeders breeding to produce more variety though. I think they should breed to standard, even though some of the other colors are beautiful.
