I'm sold on the bully sticks. My girl was a destructive chewer and a terribly sneaky thief before I started buying them. She would steal things out of closets and off of the end tables, out of purses, just about anything she could get her teeth on. I knew better than to give her rawhide but didn't know what other choices were. Since she has had them she has stopped stealing and destroying things.
I do have a concern with some of the companies that make them though. Some of the sticks being sold are just too soft and the dog ends up actually eating the stick. That is not the purpose of a chew stick and it can make some dogs sick. Gracie is a 5 pounder and I buy her the regular thickness 12" bully sticks. They are as big as she is but she doesn't mind a bit. They are hard enough that she cannot bite a piece off. She can just soften the end and it takes her quite a bit of chewing to do that. I get the sticks from Best Bully. The other brands that I have tried were just too soft and she actually got diarrhea from the Red Barn brand. |
