First let me say from one Sophie Yorkie owner to another CONGRATS!!!

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with your first Sophie, how unfair for you and your husband and most importantly Sophie. I totally understand the wanting to avoid the backlash of a small town (been there done that). Personally I was really shocked when you mentioned she showed up at your door!!!

One suggestion I might make is keeping in contact with the first Sophie's owner. When I say "keeping in contact" I do not mean condoning her breeding practices at all but you seem like a well educated person who fully understands the proper care and love for a dog. Perhaps you can teach her some things, talk her out of breeding and loving her pets for exactly that pets.

I volunteer at a local rescue every weekend and I always have to remind myself that not everyone was raised with the same values on pets life as I have. Remember in the day when people would chain their dog in the backyard all day with a bowl or water and a shabby old dog house, well it is now 2013 and we know more. Maybe being in contact with her and showing her how you treat your dogs she will learn from example.
