I think even little things can bother these little sweeties. I don't think he was being dramatic at all. I'm sorry, but I heard a vet tell a lady her dog was beeing a drama queen one time and never could even give an acurate diagnosis. I know they have personalities, but I don't think being dramatic is the issue when they are sick. I just think they feel things more intently than say a bigger dog.
I'm so happy that Dexter will be taken care of with this infection. Hopefully, you can pinpoint the allergy.
