Bettyeanne: Check out this link...its a suggestion for a carrier you can use for your flight.

My baby Cookie and I flew in August and I bought this carrier for her called the Petmate Portable Pet Home. Noone knew I had a doggie until she would start moving, it was quite amusing!!!

At checkin the counter agent said Ok now I see here you are travelling w/ a pet where is it? I had the bag in my hand the whole time and she couldn't believe how tiny and adorable...she asked me to take her out so she could see her...LOL! Well during the beginning of the flight she was in her home but she was shaky so I unzipped the home and let her keep her head out. She slept most of the flight and she didn't bark at all. I mean she doesn't usually bark so I didn't expect her to. Well the Portable Pet Home is a soft-carrier so its comfortable enough to keep on your lap during the flight. I couldn't bring myself to stuff her under the seat although it meets the required dimensions. The flight attendants didn't say anything until we were close to landing then I had to return her to her home. Oh yeah I made sure to bring a blanket and I covered her while she slept on my boyfriends chest at times during the flight also. Its funny how she just started yawning like a human would to make her ears pop...
