I am sorry you got caught... but I just don't know how you even got to the gate. I fly out of mia and it is so crazy to be sent back to buy a ticket and go through security would make me miss a flight unless I was 3 hours early.
Another thing to think about.. they have a limited number of pets allowed on a flight.. what if the flight was full?
I agree in that it makes me mad that they charge... but it is the rules and just not worth breaking. I did fly one time with my dog, told the ticket agent when I bought the ticket I had a dog, but when I boarded they did not ask for the money on one of the "legs" of the trip. I didnt even think about it until latter..sad to say that never happened again
