Ella is very quiet (compared to my Maltese, Lily).
She only barks as an alert when she hears something or sees a bird or cat in the yard. Aside from rarely barking she is an excellent whiner. She whines when she wants some attention or to be picked up, also she whines when you leave (it's almost like shes asking permission to come too!).. sometimes her whining works on us.
