Yes, I had my first cervical fusion when I was 40, 20 years ago. The pain was intolerable and I had no choice except have it fixed if I continued to work and care for my family. Now 20 yrs later I am dealing with it again. The 1st one worked great. They used my bone. I had my second one two years ago and it hasnt been right since.
This last one was six weeks ago and I have had pain since then and just had a cervical mylegram done to see what is wrong. Yes I agree that there are usually lingering problems but the longer I waited to have it fixed the more permanent the numbness and lingering pain. This last one I lived a year with the pain.
