The first year our rate was $511. The second year it is $614. 100% payout (80% at specialists). $50 copay per illness per year.
We have had him for a year and a half (511+(614x.5)=818.
Paid in $818.
Only considering the bladder problem (between tons of urinalyses, cultures, antibiotics, an IMS consult/ultrasound) we have paid $1575 (probably more).
1575-818=757. Then minus the 20% that they do not pay for specialty care (380x.20=76). 757-76=681. Minus the $50 per year deductible (881-100=581). We are $581 ahead because of insurance. and if we go with more testing and possible surgery we will save thousands more. It is scary to think that the premiums will keep going up, but it is even scarier when a vet looks at you and says your dog needs a $5000 procedure and ou are to pay up front. Charging it is peachy..if you are one that can take the hit, pay it off, and not be financially unstable because of it. $100 a month in an account would only cover slightly more than routine care and minor ussues.
