American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is the UKC breed registration name. American Staffordshire terrier (Amstaff) is the AKC breed registration name. Many dogs were dual registered with both registries. Some still are. The breed descriptions are essentially identical.

Some people will argue that the Amstaff is a "show breed" and the APBT is a "working breed".

"Pit Bull Terrier" is used as a generic name for any dog that is of the type. However, some will refer to the American Pit Bull Terrier as simply a 'pit bull' and in that case ... it IS correct. I mean, it's kind of like calling a Yorkshire Terrier a Yorkie. I know, confusing, right?!?! But the problem is SO many people call SO many different kinds of breeds 'pit bulls' when they are not.

I'd be curious if those of you who hate pit bulls and support BSL, could take this quick quiz? Which one is a true American Pit Bull Terrier?

Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

If you guess incorrectly, THAT'S the reason why BSL doesn't work. Because there's going to be an innocent dog and an innocent family destroyed by it. Because 95% of the population cannot tell the difference.

If a dog seriously injures or kills a person, I don't have a problem with euthanasia. If a dog seriously injures or kills another dog I think it is case by case.

Pits are very often dog aggressive. That isn't a surprise. It is no fault of their own if they have an owner who can't secure a fence. It is also no fault of their own that many owners shoud not be owners and warning signs aren't caught. Like people leaving a kid and with a dog and blaming it when it attacks saying there were never signs of aggression. As soon as you leave the room and your vulnerable child is alone with any dog IMO your opinion is no longer credible. You have no idea what that child did to cause fear in that dog. Fear directly translates to aggression.

It is really sad to see all the discrimination. According to temperament testing pitties are one of the best dogs in the world. They are famiky dogs. Poorly bred, poorly trained, poorly treated, or poorly read they are going to be dangerous just like any animal. When I am settled soneday I hope to have pits bc I think they are special.
