Last year I had an emergency, drove myself to a local ER just for a checkup, had a CT scan and was admitted.
The next morning a female doc said I needed a colostomy!!! My son wanted to call an ambulance to take me to another hospital but as I was stable in my condition, I checked myself out of there AMA(against medical advice) even though the nurses actually quite unprofessionally/unethhicall told me if I did my insurance would not pay for the second admission or further treatment, and Danny drove me to Baylor Dallas, where I had a second CT and was admitted thru the ER. 10 days later, I was discharged and needed no colostomy!
My insurance called it the same as a transfer from one hospital to the other as I was admitted to a second hospital that same day for the same diagnosis and they paid in full. I was SO glad I made the change and so grateful I didn't have that horrible, unnecessary surgery. The difference in hospital care in the same city can be staggering!
